Last Friday a St. Louis couple closed on the purchase of the historic Pendelton-Caroll House. They plan on using it for a weekend get-a-way.
This Italianate house was built in 1874 by George and Susan Pendleton. He was a builder and contractor according to the 1875 City Directory. Betweekn 1900 and 1909, the NW corner porch was enclosed to create the present entry and porch was built. Calvin Carroll bought the house in 1880. Mr Carroll was the son-in-law of one of Clarksville's leading citizens- Capt. Benjamin Clifford. His wife was a member of the famous Stark Family of Louisiana, MO. The house was rumoured to be an Inn at one time and a stage coach stop.
It’s so good to see a house that has been spared and it’s in such a pristine condition.
